Microchipping

Part of the lovable traits of your loyal companion is their curiosity and love for adventure. Unfortunately, this can also result in them getting lost. There are many other ways that pets get separated from their loving owners. To prevent this we recommend identification. Microchips are permanent forms of identification for your pet that don’t require any upkeep. Unlike ID tags, microchips cannot be disconnected from your pet. No one wants to think about their pet getting lost, but it’s best to have protective measures in place in the off chance that it happens. 

What is microchipping and how does it work?

A microchip is a small computer chip that can be used to identify your pet. Each chip has a unique identification number linked to the manufacturer’s database. The tiny chip is inserted on the back between the shoulder blades. Once the chip is implanted we provide documents to add your contact information to the database. It is important that you update your contact details if you move or change your number.

When your lost pet is brought into a veterinary office or humane society a microchip scanner is used to detect the device. If the scanner finds a microchip it will generate its identification number. Is the procedure painful for my pet?

Microchipping is a fairly quick procedure and most pets only feel a slight discomfort. The microchip is the size of a rice grain and your loyal companion will only feel a pinch. No anesthesia or sedation is required.
